Sally Hershberger is one of the most sought after stylists on either the East or West coast and has been for some time. Hershberger is known for many industry innovations: she was first to charge $600 for a haircut in New York City and she created the eponymous shag-cut for Meg Ryan in the mid-nineties. Born in Kansas in 1961, Hershberger began experimenting with her own hair during her adolescence. She later went on to serve under Arthur Johns. During that time, she met fashion photographer Herb Ritts who hired Hershberger to style for his editorial shoots.

She has since worked with photographers Annie Leibowitz and Helmut Newton and gathered a high profile clientele base with celebrities such as Michelle Pfeiffer, Gretchen Mol, Tom Cruise, Roger Federer, John Mayer and many others. After many years of styling, Hershberger worked with John Frieda to develop his Sheer Blonde and Beach Blonde product lines, which instantly became best sellers in the late nineties when they were released. Not long thereafter, Hershberger opened her first salon in March 2000, Sally Hershberger at John Frieda, on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. 3 years later, she followed with a New York outlet in the Meatpacking District. Though she was the first to charge $600, Hershberger now charges upwards of $800 for a cut and $3000 for hair extensions.

Hershberger has also developed her own line of hair care products, Sally Hershberger Professional, which are sold in her salon and certain products from the line are available at Walgreens stores. Further, Hershberger has helped develop a line of anti-aging skin care products for L.A.-based spa, The Face Place. However, to the general public who may not partake in Sally’s expensive products and haircuts, the stylist is likely most recognizable for her run as a no-nonsense judge during the first season of Bravo’s Shear Genius.

Sally’s now a regular contributor to the People Magazine StyleWatch beauty column “Who got it right?”. Check it out here!

Ken Paves is well known celebrity stylist behind the famed and desired tresses of Jennifer Lopez, Eva Longoria and most famously and most regularly, Jessica Simpson. Paves was born and raised outside of Detroit, Michigan and attended cosmetology school in the area. After completing his course, Paves moved to South Florida and worked as an assistant for Oribe, a highly regarded Miami-based stylist. Paves went on to study hair design at the Vidal Sassoon Academy and the Toni & Guy Institute. Subsequently, Paves created hairstyles for Valentino and Versace runway shows. Paves has since opened 4 salons located in LA, Florida, Michigan and Las Vegas. Paves is often considered one of Hollywood’s hottest stylists by the media.

Paves is well known for his many television appearances. He makes regular stops on The Oprah Winfrey Show and has appeared several times on Jessica Simpson’s reality show Newlyweds. Recently, he was in charge of the makeovers on an episode of America’s Next Top Model. Obviously, Paves is often sought after for expert tips and advice on television shows and in fashion and beauty publications.

Paves has launched a successful line of hair extensions, inspired by his frequent client and close companion, Jessica Simpson, called Hairdo. The extensions are used in salons the world over. Also, Paves has created Ken Paves Healthy Hair, a line of products such as shampoo, conditioner, styling treatments and color cosmetics for hair which can be bought on his website, in his salons and in several other shops such as Henri Bendel’s. Beyond his business pursuits, Paves is committed to charities such as Operation Smile, which provides repair surgeries for children suffering from cleft lip and palate, and Hair U Wear, which provides wigs for cancer patients.

Jose Eber, born in Nice, France in 1950, has been styling hair since he was 12 and first worked in a salon, located in Paris, at the age of 15. When Eber was 25, he traveled to Los Angeles, fell in love with the city and relocated there. Since 1975 and the inception of Eber’s American career, he has styled many famous clients and created eponymous styles. His clients include Cher, Elizabeth Taylor, Jacyln Smith and Farrah Fawcett, whose unconstructed and carefree 1970’s style was an Eber creation.

Eber is an internationally recognized hair icon and master stylist. He has appeared on major news networks like CNN and CNBC and made guest appearances on television programs such as The Today Show, Good Morning America, Shear Genius and Entertainment Tonight.

Eber has released two books, Shake Your Head Darling and Beyond Hair: The Ultimate Makeover Book. Eber runs two successful full-service salons located in Los Angeles and Plano, Texas, which were created and designed to act as relaxing retreats away from the city, a concept that Eber pioneered. Eber sells and uses a line of specially custom-made products in his salons, which were created by Eber and a trichologist (a hair and scalp specialist). Eber has seen great success with his salons, products, books and recognizable haircuts. In 2008, Eber was honored with a lifetime achievement accolade, given by the Global Salon Business Awards.

Chicago-born stylist Johnny Wright has been styling and cutting hair since he was only 12.

Wright has worked with many famous clients, such as Candace Bushnell, Vivica A. Fox and Rebecca Gayhart while styling at the famed Frederic Fekkai Salon in Los Angeles. None of his former clients are as famous as his current one, however: Wright is the 31-year-old wunderkind behind Michelle Obama’s polished coif. He first styled the First Lady for an August 2008 cover shoot for Ebony Magazine. After the shoot, Wright’s services were enlisted on a more permanent basis. Since the Obamas have moved to Washington, Wright has also mostly relocated to the District and is at Michelle’s service when she needs him; he recently styled her for a cover of Vogue.

Despite his coastal move, he has not lost his L.A. sensibility: in January, he inked a reality television show deal with production company 44 Blue who have produced modest shows for cable networks Style and A&E. While the exact format of his show is as yet unknown, it will likely follow a docusoap or makeover arrangement. 44 Blue have expressed interest in Wright for some time, even before he grabbed his famous client. The producers believe in his telegenic personality and appreciate the fact that as a man of color, he will represent a minority which is often ignored by beauty, style and makeover programs.

In an interview with W Magazine, Johnny tells a bit about his TV show, currently in casting.

Nick Arrojo is a celebrated stylist who has been working in the industry for more than two decades. Arrojo, who was born in Manchester, England in 1966, began his career with Vidal Sassoon. He became the youngest ever Assistant Creative Director for Vidal Sassoon when he was only 21.

After ten years at the salon, he moved to London where he worked with the Wella Team. In 1994, he attracted New York’s prominent and acclaimed salon, Bumble and Bumble, where Arrojo became Director of Education. Several years later he established his own salon, Arrojo Studio in New York City, which now bustling and admired, has recently expanded to 15,000 square feet.

Arrojo is a household name due to his effervescent appearances on TLC’s What Not To Wear. Beyond his appearances on the show, Arrojo’s products are growing in popularity and are sold at his Varick Street salon, Space NK stores in both New York and the UK, and on QVC. Arrojo’s products are easy to use and custom designed to suit all hair types. As if that’s not enough, Arrojo also has a line of stylist videos for educational purposes. The videos, covering fundamentals, razor-use, color, bob, layers, and men’s cuts, are designed to improve control, flexibility and style, and will, according to Arrojo’s online store, “unlock your true creative potential.” Arrojo has also written Great Hair, a book that reveals his style secrets to the everyday woman and features real women as his models.

Tabatha Coffey is a 40-year-old Australian stylist who is famed for her run on Bravo’s hair competition, Shear Genius and her appearances in her own show, the subsequent Bravo series, Tabatha’s Salon Takeover. Coffey got her start assisting in a salon in her hometown of Surfer’s Paradise, Queensland, when she was just 14. Coffey has since garnered more than 25 years of experience in the industry.

Two years ago, Coffey appeared on Shear Genius and though she was considered an early front-runner, she was eliminated in the sixth episode. However, after the program’s run, viewers voted Coffey the Fan Favorite, due to the fact that she was outspoken, intense and talented and many believed, eliminated far too early. Due to her popularity on the show, Bravo enlisted her to star in her own series. Tabatha’s Salon Takeover chronicles Coffey’s journeys into struggling salons wherein she gives owners sound advice and needed expertise to give their dire businesses a physical, spiritual and dogmatic renovation.

Coffey also owns her own salon, Industrie Hair Gurus, which is located in Ridgewood, New Jersey. Though Coffey is known for her personality, she has no specific trademark style markers. She methodically provides an individual style for each and every client.

She is also a spokeswoman for hair care product company Joico International. With the company, Coffey tours annually, producing hair shows which display her energetic talent and her desire to educate and communicate with fellow professionals and aspiring stylists. Coffey’s work has been regularly featured in such publications as Seventeen, Marie Claire and Cosmopolitan. Despite building a massive client base in her own salon in New Jersey, Coffey has become bi-coastal due to her new notoriety and has begun seeing clients at the Warren-Tricomi Salon in West Hollywood. Coffey is openly gay and lives with her partner of ten years in New Jersey.

Tabatha’s Salon Takeover returns for season two on November 3rd! Check out the website!

Many of our visitors to this page are curious about Tabatha Coffey’s sexuality (yes, she’s lesbian), and most are curious about her longtime girlfriend. Don’t be surprised that you can’t find out the identity of her partner, it’s something she has kept quite private. This Starcasm article references her comments on gay marriage, and confirms her hard work keeping the name of her partner secret.

Jonathan Antin was born in 1967 in Los Angeles and was surrounded by elites from the entertainment, fashion and beauty industries. Until his adolescence, Antin pursued acting and art however during his sixteenth year he considered a career in hair after seeing the cult classic, “Shampoo.”

In the mid-eighties, Antin served as an apprentice at John’s Adjectives Salon in West Hollywood and guests such as Olivia Newton John, Tina Turner and the Gabor sisters visited the salon during Antin’s tenure. After a short time in New York and traveling through Europe, Antin returned home to Los Angeles. Through the 90’s, Antin’s reputation and high profile client base grew significantly. He has worked with celebrity clients like Madonna, Ricky Martin, Kirsten Dunst, Alicia Silverstone and Kate Bosworth.

In 2004, Antin was cast to star in his own reality show on Bravo, Blow Out, which detailed the opening of his own salon, Jonathan Salon, situated in Beverly Hills. Due to the series’ growing popularity, it was renewed for a second season, which ran in 2005 and chronicled the everyday workings of Antin’s life while operating two salons, as well as launching his own line of products. Antin’s line of hair care products, sold at Sephora and Bath & Bodyworks stores, are made with purified water, natural extracts and utilizes the unique chemical properties of tourmaline and amethyst. The products are completely vegan and free from sulfates.

On the show, Antin was a highly polarizing character: while considered part charismatic, smooth and interesting, he was also seen as volatile and conceited. Antin and his wife, Sescie, have two children and currently reside in Los Angeles.
